OASIS Spielersperre Aufheben

With the launch of new regulations in August, every online casino in Germany is now officially required to connect to the OASIS player exclusion system. This new system has many players searching for the ways to remove oasis player ban. How to do it? Enrollment in OASIS is a simple process; however, getting out of it is far less clear for players. If you are currently barred through the Oasis system or are contemplating whether it is a good choice for you, you are probably wondering how you can reverse enrollment. The short, unfortunate answer to this question is that there are currently no explicit procedures to unlock your Oasis enrollment before the minimum time period has expired.

Once you are added to the lock file, you are potentially stuck there until your agreed upon exclusion period has lapsed. A gaming operator even reserves the right to block you indefinitely if they have reason to believe you have a gambling problem. So should you choose to self-exclude, you could also face the risk of never being returned access to some operators.

Players are surprised by blocked accounts.

As more casinos have registered to the OASIS database, there has been more confusion and increased reports of players unknowingly having accounts blocked. In some cases, players are being added to the OASIS lock file because of previous bans from land-based casinos. As online gambling only just became legal and regulated in July 2021, players who were barred from local casinos are seeing those bans transferred to the online platforms as well.

Since OASIS has gone live, user accounts are being blocked without warning, explanation, or understanding. If this happens to you, it is recommended to first contact the provider’s customer support to confirm or update your registered data. It’s possible that not enough data was provided during initial registration. If the problem cannot be resolved with the provider directly, your next query would be with the Darmstadt Regional Council in Hesse.

Players should expect to see additional guidelines and clauses introduced in the near future as OASIS is continuously evaluated and updated. The Darmstadt Regional Council has already shown that a later version of the system will introduce additional data processing and storage. It is likely that ban lifting procedures will also be updated to account for the inclusion of online gambling in German gaming law.

What are the exclusion periods and ban lifting procedures?

The Oasis system comes with one of the longest barring procedures in comparison to other self-exclusion systems. According to the GlüStV 2021, a ban can not be lifted before the designated time has expired. Once your exclusion period has lapsed, only then can you request to have your online casino ban removed. For self-exclusion, that can range from three months to a year or more, and for third-party exclusion, a minimum of one year.

When the exclusion period has ended, it is the sole responsibility of the barred player to be informed on the proper actions to start the ban lifting process. Previously, individual organizers had the authority to lift their own player bans. It is important to know that this is no longer the case. Under the new OASIS regulations, all players wishing to have a ban lifted must communicate directly with the Darmstadt Regional Council following an expired barring period.

The barred individuals must personally request an ‘application to lift a player ban’ that should be completed and sent by post with a copy of acceptable identification. There is no possibility for any bans to be lifted online; however, as processes are further analyzed and tested, we could see some changes here in the near future.

It is important to stay informed on the current OASIS procedures because the current situation is that if you don’t request and submit your application, then you will not see your ban lifted. In the event of self-barring, the process can take anywhere from a week to a month to complete, and a third-party ban will take no less than a month to lift. It is best to avoid any mistakes in your request to lift a ban, as it could tack on extra waiting periods if you must resubmit an application. For instance, suppose you submit your application a day too early.

The application will immediately be rejected upon receipt, and you will have to resubmit it. Currently, there is no way around this once you are officially enrolled in Oasis. Right now, the best way to avoid self-exclusion frustration is to choose an alternative casino with a license not bound to the Oasis self-exclusion scheme.

What about short-term exclusion?

The short-term self-exclusion option is a far more straightforward process that requires significantly less action from the player. It is simply a way to take a short break if you decide it is necessary. Casinos will be required to have an easily recognizable button displayed on their site. If you select it, you will have opted into a 24-hour self-exclusion period, basically meaning that you will forgo access to online gaming sites. Once the period has lapsed, your gaming access will be automatically restored without any further action.

Short-term exclusion is considered the favorable and less restrictive option for players who recognize that they need to take a step back from gambling for a short time. This option will always be available to all players and eliminates the potential setbacks of opting into OASIS. There is no risk of unwarranted blocked accounts, permanent suspension, or long waiting periods. You would take your short-term exclusion and resume play if you deem yourself ready.
